Abstract

The urban landscape design studio is for 3rd year students at Department of Landscape Architecture, Faculty of Built Environment, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia is to introduce students the important aspect of landscape architecture that involves the role of the profession in the organizations and design of outdoor spaces within the urban context which form the basis of the success of a good city planning and design. The aim of this paper is to describe the innovative of teaching method as an added knowledge in the urban landscape design studio. The method comprises such lecture inputs, literature review, graphic exercises and also digital management data analysis by using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Sketchup to analyze spatial urban design information. Results shows urban landscape design rationales were applied into the design development to produce a sustainable scheme through creative and intuitive thinking ideas with application and scientific principles and reasonable technical information as a basis in the solution of urban landscape design.
