An effort was made to build up the capacity of 300 rural household women of livestock potential districts of Khairpur and Nausheroferoz, Sindh province Pakistan in integrated poultry and livestock management and 10 educated females as trainers through a novel interactive Farmer Field School participatory learning approach. Farmer field school curriculum included all major aspects with special emphasis on management, nutrition, health especially diseases, vaccination, prevention and management practices, animal ecosystem analysis, production/reproduction of large and small ruminants and poultry, role of women in livestock and poultry management as well as increased observation and health management etc. The pilot initiative brought a promising change in village women regarding management of poultry and livestock existing practices which was reflected through better health management of animals and increased production. De-worming, vaccination and disease management were major initiatives of targeted rural women communities.
