Visual aesthetic assessment begins to be recognized as a mechanism of protecting the landscape and environment from being abused and destructed in future development There is an increasing demand for visual landscape to be integrated in landscape policy management, landscape planning and monitoring However, existing assessment need to be enhanced since existing methodology of visual aesthetic lacks of accessibility and imprecise indicators are used to evaluate human perception. Besides, this explorative study is to review the fundamentals of aesthetic and its paradigms which will lead to a further understanding of the visual aesthetic concept and the field of the study. Apart from this, a crucial method is needed to identify the relationship of community perception and expert in the process of visual aesthetic assessment and the indicators. The issues of this paper will review on how to develop a new methodology that produces a model of indicators that share a common perception of community and experts. At the same time, it will stress on the importance of empowered community as stakeholder within the proposed methodology. A study upon various disciplines of landscape and urban planning, urban forestry and urban greenery, ecological indicators, ecological economic and land use policy are reviewed to give a deeper understanding of the significant existing indicators that can be used for future assessment and the relevance to the proposed methodology.
